ACCAD 5194 -- Interactive Animation
Created in Unreal, this was a group project centered around the theme of what job you wanted to do at different stages in life. In the youngest years, the character wanted to do something imaginary or creative like being a cowgirl. In highschool age, they were trying to think practically like being a doctor. And then finally as an adult it shows what job the character actually ended up with -- being a comic artist. By flipping through the characters diary, you are able to enter the different worlds of these lives and explore these careers.
Time Travel is a working preliminary prototype for the idea of customizable animation. In the third section -- the comic artist -- the player is put into the 3D world of a creative studio and is allowed to explore. When they approach the desk, they are given a 2D panel where they are able to customize the visuals on the comic they are creating.
There are three main choices.
What the hero looks like.
What the villain looks like.
What setting this is taking place in.
Regardless of what the player chooses, the animation that takes place is the same. This was a test into the capabilites of the software for switching out visuals, how users interact with having a choice in the story, looking to see what the most popular choices are, and what effective UI can look like in customized animation to still feel 'in world'.
